Again, I don't have the full article but this is a great abstract.

I'm 99% sure your CF doc subscribes to the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis so hopefully if you're interested in reading the full text you can get a hold of it.

This abstract can be a great "starting off point" for your discussion with the doc

I completely agree, ideal weight for age vs. BMI is a crucial point of discussion.

I agree, that some kind of 'weight for age' standard is generally useless for MANY kids, whether or not they have CF, because it doesn't take into consideration how tall a child is.

Our clinic (like many I've seen mentioned here) uses BMI, which takes into consideration age, sex, weight and height. A great link discussing how BMI is interpreted for children: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/childrens_BMI/about_childrens_BMI.html">About BMI for Children and Teens</a> (There are links to info about adult BMI there too.)

I agree, that some kind of 'weight for age' standard is generally useless for MANY kids, whether or not they have CF, because it doesn't take into consideration how tall a child is.

Our clinic (like many I've seen mentioned here) uses BMI, which takes into consideration age, sex, weight and height.
