Freestyle Navigator

My new endocrinologist recently suggested I look into getting the Freestyle Navigator Continuous glucose monitoring system. I do not have an insulin pump, I use insulin pens (Lantus and Novolog) and my last few months of prednisone have me checking my sugars probably about 8 times a day. I want to know if anyone has experience with this monitoring system. It would be awesome to avoid sticking my fingers all the time, but I also read something about the transmitter taking 10 hours to calibrate? Any information would be fantastic, I've already read up the information on the Abbott website. Thanks!

I tried using the Navigator and only lasted 2 weeks with it. It does take 10 hours to calibrate, the alarms were annoying, they went off ALL the time. Plus the biggest downside for me was that I noticed that it would be off by almost 100 at times!

I personally didn't like it, but if you want to try it you should. You still have to do finger sticks, but its down to like 3 times a day instead.

check into the medtronic guardian -continuous glucose monitor. it only takes 2 hours to calibrate initially and then you have to calibrate at least 2 times daily thereafter. it is fairly accurate as long as you calibrate at the appropriate times. when i wear it, i cut the bg checks from 10 or more to about 4 per day.
