Frustrated!

In March I took my dd to the CF clinic to seek their opinion about her frequent sinus infections, sweat chloride of 38 and other odd symptoms she has had. I had a good experience, they took me seriously and we made a plan for having her bronched (results good) doing a few other tests and getting the Ambry Amplified test done (she has none of the 97 mutations already tested for several years ago).

So, everything else was done with in 2 weeks of the initial appointment. I had spoken with Steve (ambry guy), and he suggested to be certain that the test was preapproved. Well this is taking what feels like forever. I have called the ins. comp. several times a week since the preapproval letter was sent and they recieved it into their system 3 days ago. Now they have said they will mail my doc a letter letting them know whether or not the test is covered . Why don't they let me know. I am the one who is really concerned. I feel like it is a load of BS. Oh, and they have 30 days to look over this. Which means we likely won't have an answer until mid June. Then if it is refused, we have to go over all of this again.

UGH!!! I am so frustrated. Almost to the point of tears. I have been trying to figure all of this out for 10 years. And now it will likely be time for school to start again before we would actually have test results. The real problem with all of this is that our primary care doc has pretty much refused to treat my dd, bc of all the antibiotics, and surgery they feel they have done all they could. (of course I understand this is ridiculous but I have not had the energy to find a new ped.)

Anyway I just had to vent. I love quick answers and this has not been a quick process. I just want to know one way or another.

Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear this Sandy. Insurance can be maddening. My doc ordered a CT-scan on a lump I had in my leg muscle and my insurance refused to approve it saying I could just have an X-ray. My doctor insisted that an x-ray really wouldn't find what she was looking for. It was a huge fight and they also wanted us to wait 30 days, and all I could think was how 30 days seems like a long time when you are worried about life and death diagnoses.

The thing with the insurance companies is that you just have to keep pushing. Don't give them time for dust to settle and don't give in. I hope you get the approval already, knowing is soooo important both for your dd's health and your own sanity.
