My wife and I had this idea on how to fund part of the expenses of a transplant, since I am likely to get on the list at some point in the next year with the way things have been going.
I wanted to get thoughts from you all, and see if this has been done before, if it worked, and if the transplant screening would accept such a proposal for 24 hour care after a transplant.
Our idea is to instead of asking for money from friends and family to help fund the cost of the transplant, we though that we would instead ask people to donate a week of their time to care and watch over me during the post transplant months when you have to remain in the transplant city for follow up care (I heard it is 3 months after the surgery). This way we have someone 24/7, and my wife can stay at home and work for much of the time during my recovery so we don't lose at least her income. And depending on the city, I have a couple of friends in potential transplant cities who might let me stay at their house for the durantion.
Is this a good idea? Could/will it work?
Thanks for you feedback.
