Fundraising on your own

Last year I had come up with a CFF fund raising idea in honor of my granddaughter, Keira. Despite the fact that it was based off of the GreatStrides concept it (honestly) wasn't particularly successful. Right along the local CFF chapter kept asking if I needed help with anything, but every time I pinpointed an area of assistance, they weren't particularly helpful. It seems that if they were working with an idea that was the least bit different from their "canned" previous fundraisers they were lost.

Has anyone here tackled a fundraiser on their own? What type of fundraiser was it and what resources did you use to help you?
