I've always only asked the people in my life that know I have CF (all close friends, family) but have not asked people for money that don't know about my situation. My question for y'all is do you ever openly fundraise to some but have a second 'more descrite' approach for others (in my case - coworkers)? I feel I could really get a lot more money if I broadened my scope. I usually use the Great Strides website and email that out to everyone with an update on my progress and a photo. Of course, this approach would have to change if I didn't want to disclose that I have CF. I don't know maybe I just shouldn't make a big deal about it and if people ask me why CF, I'll say nonchalantly "because I have it." Yeah I'm sure that would go over really well. Am I over reacting?

Also, I was thinking this year I'd send out an update on progress towards a cure. Does anyone have one of these for this year that they wouldn't mind sharing the contents of with me? I'd really appreciate it and would give you credit for compiling the data at the bottom of the page.

Hi Lauren,

Yes, you will definatley raise a lot more money if you were to broaden your scope. There is a thread called National CF Awareness Month, i and many other people have posted on that topic. It might help.

I was also wondering, why you wouldn't disclose the fact that you have CF. I'm sure people wouldn't treat you any differently because of that, i hope not anyway.

Godd luck and take care

My fundraising letter reads "Several of our team members have been personally affected by CF". We participate in great strides and I have a poster up in my office, but I really don't want it to be about me. And there are so many walks and fundraisers going on, I don't think people really care as to why we're doing it. You sponsor my event -- I'll sponsor yours!
