My daughter (4 yrs) is not gaining weight. She does not eat much. Neither does her mom or I do. Doctors are pushing to get the G-tube placed. She does not have malabsorption and does not take any enzymes. Is G-Tube commonly used even for cf patients with no malabsorption? Is it habbit forming and result in poor diet and emotional distress?

My granddaughter has had a g-tube since she was 4 mos old. Her eating habits did change but we feel it was for the good. Emalie was diagnosed at 6 days old when her meconium hadn't passed and her bowel became obstructed, twisted and died. She had 5 surgeries in her first 90 days of her life. Her weight goes up and down but we are so thankful for her g-tube because we know that she is getting the nutrition that she needs to grow. Our biggest problem right now is she has just learned to walk and the feeding bag and tubing gets wrapped around her and gets pulled out. I wish someone would invent some kind of contraption that would follow her around with the bag! Does anyone out there have a solution for this?
Me or my daughter would be glad to talk to you anytime about your daughter, if you have any questions.
