Hi-

My very active 7 year old just got her g tube last march. She has a mini button and the inner balloon has burst 4 times since she has had it placed! Is this normal? Does any one know what other options are out there? She is doing amazing with it - I just wonder why it keeps bursting?

Any input as always is great!

One of my sons has his button burst about every other month. The other son's never has. I think it is from excess acid. If its working, stick with it, but ask your dr for advice too.

When my kids first got their buttons they kept bursting as well. It turned out that there was a whole batch that was defective from the manufacturer. It's worth checking up on that with your nurse.

Good luck

We have found that if you dont switch it out at 2 1/2 months rather than the 3 they say that it pops. We havent had any issues with it actually falling out except when our oldest first got it we just happen to find it popped when we change it out. Good luck

Thank you for your replies!
Her g tube actually has popped 2 times since i posted this!! We are having a non balloon mini gtube inserted next Weds. via the OR. The doctors think that she does have a very high acid stomach. But that it has burst 7 times in 6 months is crazy!! It has never come out just deflated. Brinly is very aware of her gtube and she knows right away if it has burst or if it needs water!
Hopefully this non- balloon style gtube will be the answer. The doctors say it will need to be replaced every 2 years. We have also given her 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1/2 tsp sea salt water to maintain acid tummy levels. She has been on prevacid before but i want a more natural acid remedy.

Thanks again!!
