I have CF and I have just recently hears about Double DeltaF508's. What is that and how do I know if I am one. I have always just known it as being DeltaF508.
I'm really confused.
I'm super healthy, lung functions 96% weight is 152. According to my docs I'm overweight. They want me to lose 20 pounds.
But can someone clue me in on the double deltaf508 thing? and like I said, how do I know I have it.

Did they ever do genetic blood tests on you to identify the cf genes? DS' lab results showed homozygous (two of the same) deltaf508. So two copies of the same delta f508 gene.

He's very trim, pancreatic insufficient, so he needs digestive enzymes, has had a couple bowel obstructions...

Yeh, so double Df508 means that the individual has two copies of the df508 gene, as opposed to my kids who have df508 + G551D.

If you know you have df508 I would be assuming you may have two copies of that gene. I think that approx. 70% (could be wrong) of pwcf have the df508, it's the most common gene mutation. However, as Liza said, you would only know for sure if you ask and find out if you have been tested for both genetic copies you inherited. As I said, my kids have the df508 copy plus the G551D <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
