Getting pregnant again...IVF/PGD

My husband & I found out we were both cf carriers during my pregnancy. I had a CVS test done and found out that our baby did not have cf. Our baby, Sophie, is nearly 4 months old and is precious as can be. I thank God every day for blessing us with a healthy baby. I really want to have more children, and I can't help thinking about it. I am a Christian and am morally opposed to terminating a pregnancy, and I have been trying to research the IVF/PGD process. I know it is a bit early to think of getting pregnant again, but I would like to know if anyone has experience with this and would appreciate any advice.

PGD/IVF destroys the embryos you don't use after the fact. If you're opposed to abortion, IVF should carry the same implication. Adoption is always an option for more kids, and it's even mentioned in the old testament as being pleasing to God to care for the orphan.

Hi carla. Congradulations on a beautiful baby girl, first off <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. I would like to point you to julie's website. She and her husband just went through the IVF process to have children, and her website is cysticfibrosismaleinfertility.com -- They did not to PGD as far as I know; they did IVF because Mark had CF and so was missing the vas-deferens. But, long story short, they have 3 beautiful 4 month olds.

I wish you the best of luck with your new baby, any possible future pregnancies and/or adoptions!

Be well.

Hi Carla. We have a two year old with Cystic Fibrosis (had no idea we were carriers). We also wanted more children and decided that taking the chance was not for us.

We did do IVF with PGD and are currently 20 weeks pregnant with our second boy!We did not do am amnio to confirm the results- we are just praying that everyone did their part correctly.

It was a tough moral decision. Adoption was too expensive. (IVF was covered by my insurance) In IVF even without PGD, embryos are discarded all the time. So you need to know that. In our case, no tough decisions were made because only two embryos survived, both without CF supposedly, and transferred back into me.

It is a tough, debated question but only you and your husband can decide what is right for you. We knew it was the best for us and we think it will keep Aidan healthier in the long run and he was our top priority. I will gladly give you more info on PGD if you want, there are only a few clinics in the US who perform it regularly.

Since abortion is such a controversial topic....I would highly suggest that you think deeply as to what your beliefs are if you follow thru with IVF. No one besides you & your husband have to deal with the emotional ramifications. Some people can seperate things at a certain point where others cant. No wrong or right thoughts IMHO! Yes adoption is always an option, but I am sure you are aware of this!

We looked into IVF and decided it was not for us with destroying embroys. Our son is 9 w/CF and we looked into adoption and IVF,but just felt like we should trust God and have one of our own. So we did after 7 years of praying about it. Owen is 2 now and does not have CF. God won't give you more then you can handle! We are even thinking of a 3rd! Best of Luck in your decision!

My husband and I have three beautiful children. Our middle child Ainsley was diagnosed five months ago, just before we were going to start trying for number 4 ( I know we must be crazzy), we actually were planning to go for 5.
A couple months after diagnosis, we made a hard decision and my husband just had a vasectomy last month. We decided that we have been very blessed with the 3 we already have and I couldn't bear the thought of any of my children being discarded, since with all of my pregnancies I felt bonded from conception on ( I always knew I was pregnant before taking a test).
Good luck in your decision, just remember all life is a miracle to be cherished.
God bless
