Just a few weeks ago i notices Lil G's tube looked "loose". I checked the fluid in the tube and there wasnt' much. We had a spare so I decided to change it since i was leaving her with my parents for the weekend and me and hubby went out of town. SO... now just a couple weeks after i noticed again that her tube looked loose again. I refilled the water. Then later in the day i again checked to make sure her tube was ok. It was loose. It must have had a hole. At this point we didn't have another replacement. So i filled it again and taped it until it came the next day. Has anyone had this problem? What could be the reason why they are not lasting?

I have had the same issue with my buttons in the past. My GI said that people who have a very acidic stomach tend to break down Mic-Key buttons faster.Does your child have a problem with reflux? I do which contributes to this problem. Some medications tend break down the Mic-Key button too. I find flushing the tube with water often helps preserve the life of the tube. I would speak to your clinic about tips on how the make the tube last longer. They may have some good tips for you.

i had the same situation a few months ago and we thought it was her prevacid or that her stomach was to acidic also...and i think that was part of the problem..but, when i contacted our med supply comp they said that the manufactuer kimberly clarke had reported possible defects in certain batches. they recommended if they burst within 30 days of inserting them to keep them and they will ask you to send it to the company. hope this helps! (i always keep catheters on hand in different sizes just incase the button pops and starts to grow shut and cant get the new one in, your health care provider can write a prescription for 10, 12 and 14 french catheters and an extension for the top, just like they had in the beginning).

We were having this problem a few months ago too and we were also told it was probably a defective "batch" of mickey buttons. Our doc. wrote us a rx so that we can get one mickey kit a month and we also keep catheters on hand, too (usually keep one in the diaper bag, just in case we are out and something happens to his mickey). We have not had any problems since, but I know there for a while it seemed like they were not lasting more that a few weeks.
