I am using it right now, hence the palsy in my typinginginging (ha ha).
I felt sorta embarrassed to use it at first - this is my first real step towards treatments - but my husband was very reassuring to me and has been great reminding me to do it every day (well for three days anyway!)

So what order do you do stuff? I thought I would do the vest and then neb the HS (that's the only neb I do) and then use my advair and albuterol inhalers....does this sound right?

I have a nasty cold right now, so I am coughing a ton, but how much does the vest usually make you cough? I notice I don't cough much using it or right after, but I am coughing a ton all day, which I know a lot is cold related but I wonder how much is from the agitation of the vest?????

Merry Christmas to those who celebrarte it!

Congratulations! It does take some time to get into the habit of using the vest but you will be a pro before you know it.

This is my routine:

I do albuteral first. Then pulmozyme. Next I strap on the vest and do my Hypertonic Saline along with the vest treatments. When I am finished with the saline and vest I take the advair.

Some people do the vest treatment after the hypertonic saline neb but I feel it works best if I do them together (I get more stuff up) and my doctor said that is fine to do.

Hope this helps and that your cold clears up soon.

Have a blessed Christmas with that beautiful family of yours.

The Vest takes a while to get used to - give yourself a few weeks. What type of Vest did you decide to get? And what settings are you using with that particular type of Vest?

Here's the order that I do nebs (you can insert MDI's for your reference):

1. Albuterol (open up the airways...can't do anything unless you open up the airways)

2. Pulmozyme (enzymes eat up the mucus and make it thinner)

3. Hypertonic Saline (draws water outside of the cells into the airways... water helps the sputum mobolize)

4. Once your aiways are open, your mucus is thin, and your airways are aqua-fied, the Vest will be most effective. You are using the Vest to cough up sputum - and the above steps will help you cough up as much sputum as possible

Good luck

I strap on my vest, and then I do my breathing treatments in this order: DuoNeb (albuterol and atrovent), pulmozyme, then my hypertonic saline, all while doing the vest. If I didn't do it this way, I'd be doing treatments 99.9% of my entire day. This way it saves time, and I don't find that it changes the effectiveness of the treatments at all. I do this three times a day, basically til I get overheated or just need to take a break. (The timer on my machine doesn't work any more, and I'm too lazy to time myself) I keep the vest by the computer so I can get online while using it, so I don't go insane.

You have to do albuterol (airway openers) first.

I do this:
Albuterol/or Advair depending on which I'm doing ( now that I'm preg, I alternate advair and albuterol b/c albuterol makes me shaky. this is the advice of my doctor)
Then pulmozyme.
Put on Vest and do Hypertonic Saline at same time as doing vest.

Also-have you been taught the proper way to do your vest?-Adjusting the frequencies and coughing correctly to get mucus out? I ask b/c I had the vest for 10 years and was never taught how until I moved to adult Cf care-(3 yrs ago).

oh yeah and a doc told me i should use advair last so it can work better, after I've opened up my airways and cleared them out some. Not sure how true this is. It was a resident who told me that.
