Grand Mal Seizure

Friday in the morning I went to the county office to take care of some paperwork dealing with our building permits.
I sat on a bench to wait for the person that I needed to talk to, to get out of a meeting. As I was sitting on the bench I started to get strange feelings. I felt a little light headed, my muscles felt like they were tightening, and the room started to fade away.

The next thing I knew was I was being put on a back board, being strapped to a gurney and being asked a billion questions by a bunch of firefighters!!!

I was so scared and confused and had no idea what was happening. I was feeling a wierd vibrating sensation throughout my whole body in my muscles that would travel in waves from my head to my toes. I thought for sure I was dying and was crying to god to help me.

I was put in the back of the ambulance and heard the paramedics talking to each other about how my heart stopped but started again on its own. Right then I thought for sure I was dying.

I have never experienced such a scary horrible thing in my life. Later in the ER I was told that I had a grand mal seizure that lasted 3 min.
My heart went into V-tach and then into bi-gemny after they rolled me over. So my heart cardioverted on its own so at least I didn't have to be defilbrilated.

I am told that this is all caused from a med that I am on to treat the c-diff that I got from being on IV antibiotics for two and a half weeks.
I was put on flagyl to treat the cdiff.

I am having a really hard time with alot of the meds to treat my cf and am getting scared to even be on anitbiotics now.
I am home now and trying to rest and hopefully not have another seizure. The Flagyl should be out of my system in about 1 week. So I cannot be alone, or drive a car until I am cleared again by a Dr. I have been put on Ativan which raises your threshold for seizures in hope of preventing another one from occuring. I am also on Tylenol three to treat the bumps and bruises that I have on my head and shoulder from the fall.

I will try to keep you all update when I can. Thanks for all of your support.

Ugh Khristina I am so sorry about you dealing with this. That is terrifying.

I was put on flagyl this past January because they thought I had C diff cause I got sick and had some stomach issues when I was on IVs. The thing that bothered me was that the flagyl caused more problems than the stomach issues I was having. I ultimately had them take me off the flagyl cause I was vomiting every time I took it - also I didn't have C diff in the first place - the culture/sample they took came back negative. Now I am just thankful all I dealt with was the nausea and vomiting and no seizures.

I hope you start feeling better soon and that the tylenol and ativan help. Take it easy and rest up.

Take care,
Linds

I can't imagine how you must have felt going through this. It had to be very scary. My heart goes out to you. I do hope that it does not happen again. Keeping you in prayer. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I am so sorry to hear this. I am an epileptic and have grand mal seizures. They really drain you.

I hope you can find solutions to deal with your CF issues without the risk of things like seizures.
