Grandparent afraid

Hello. I am a grandfather of a 8 month old CF granddaughter. She is having a terrible time with her bowel. She has a ostomy and for 7 mos she has been doing great. Now, she is at Riley Hospital with a feeding tube. She is scheduled for surgery Monday and I am so afraid that this will not take care of the problem.

I love her so much. My heart is very heavy. I have faith in God and I have many prayers going out. Just can't seem to shake this saddness.

Has anyone ran into this with their child/grandchild?

Hi, my daughter is 3 1/2 mths and is in Childrens right now. She had an Ileostomy from meconium Ileus since 3 days old. She is getting put back together now. My daughter had been gaining weight great. The surgeon told us that she would probably even gain better now because the food will be able to digest and absorb better!! Yes it has been an adventure but you will get through it!! What exactly is the surgery she is having? Also, why does she have a feeding tube?

My granddaughter has an ostomy. Has had it since birth. However, her bowel is now getting twisted and has developed a hernia at the stoma. The feeding tube is that while she is eating a little, she has since stop eating due to her stool is getting backed up. They (doctors) have to flush her colon several times a day. That is it in a nut shell.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Haha, we used to pray to the poop fairy too so that we could get out of the hospital.
Our little Rachel was born with a narrowing in her small intestine. She has had two surgeries and 13 stays at the hospital. She is 3-1/2. She weighs 35lbs. She is taller and heavier than her none CF cousin that is 3 months older. She has been out of the hospital for a record of almost 2 years. The beginning was very hard but things are better now. It is always really hard to see someone that you love in pain. Hang in there.

Great News. My granddaugter is doing well and is out of the hospital. The doctors at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, more specifcally Dr. Karen West, done a great job with the surgery. Our Madison is no longer relying on a ostomy, feeding tubes etc. She is having the poopie diapers and we are estatic. Sounds crazy but what that is what we are grateful for.

So now I am not the Grandparent scared but Grandparent giving the praise where praise is due. To God and the Doctor's at Riley.

Thank you for your update. It's funny, my 2 girls both have CF however my younger daughter had many complications at birth including meconium ileus and a temporary ileostomy. The first 4 months of her life were difficult and full of worry. I can understand your concerns throughout your grand-daughters ordeals and am thankful she is doing well.

My younger daughter is now 2 and doing wonderfully! I also wanted to let you know....her name is Madison Hope!

Oh sorry, that last one by Anonymous that said I would pray for you was me. I didn't see that she had gotten better, and I couldn't edit the post! Heehee, sorry. And I'm glad she's better!
In Christ,
