Mel's family doctor finally called back (he was out of the office). He explained all my questions and reassured me entirely. With her medical history (despite the multiple pneumonia's) he truly doesn't think she has CF. But he does insist that she go for the test anyway - it won't hurt knowing! As for the Staph, yes it is very rare in the throat, but he doesn't think she should do another throat culture. He says it is probably gone by now. He thinks the cotton swab could very possibly have gotten contaminated in the hospital. And the noise she made breathing, well he explained that to me as well. So I guess you won't be hearing from me again, other than my letting everybody know the results of her tests. I do apreciate all the advice. - KAME

Does your daughter still have her tonsils?

I don't have CF, but when I was very very little, I had numerous bouts of tonsilitis and strep and because of that, my tonsils were very scarred and chronically infected. I had tonsiliths, tonsil stones -- basically chronicallly infected tonsils, in which the infection went very deep and I could never get rid of it. Also known as cryptic tonsils - the infection (white curd like balls of pus) would be lodged in my tonsils and break off. I was rarely sick, but horribly self conscious about those nasty things. So at ate 34, I had my tonsils removed. The ent, said they were huge -- golf ball sized masses of infected tissue that went very deep. Just a thought.
