Here's my best advice - now this may sound like I have no shame - but what has always worked for me so far:

When I contact someone either by phone, email, in person I ALWAYS start off with

"I am calling (here, writing, etc) because my daughter has cystic fibrosis"

Almost no one will cut you off. If you say "I am calling to raise money and awareness for CF" you will hear a dial tone on the other end.

When you tell someone that this is your child, your friend, your family member that is affected - almost no one will have the guts to tell you to get lost.

Good luck with it all. Our team raised 12,000 last year.

This is just our second year participating in Great Strides. Our team had good success with having a bake sale outside of Walmart the weekend before Easter. Lots of people bought treats for easter baskets. Walmart will let you sign up and have something outside twice a year. We also talked to Papa John's pizza and they sold us pizza discount cards for $1, that we then sold for $10/piece. They were a pretty good deal for the purchaser, you buy 1 large and get a medium free 16 times! Just ask around and people are usually willing to do what they can to help. Hope this helps!
