I recently posted about discovering my children have bronchiectasis. My daughter's is more advanced than my son. Quick info.. My son who was malnourished as of a year ago has put on 20lbs since starting enzymes. He didn't require IV antibiotics for his bronchiectasis and had responded well to oral antibiotics (no more cough). My daughter who is very low in weight and is a very picky eater, had a PICC line then oral antibiotics and is now on Tobi still isn't right. She is better but not like my son. She still has junk in her lungs and is VERY tired most of the time. We are suspecting her nutrition is playing a role and are considering a Gtube. She is between 46-48lbs and will be 8 in June. Any thoughts??? Thanks!!

Hi Amy,

My 3 year old recently had a g-tube put in. She is doing great! She responded to orals really well with this last cough, and prior to the g-tube surgery she was on two weeks of IVs.

If you have any questions, I'm happy to help -- just PM me.!

i was very concerned at first with my daughter getting a gtube, but it has been great for her! we havent had any serious weight problems in almost a year (since her gtube). the first 6 weeks were the hardest...waiting for it to heal, keeping it clean, changing dressing, etc...but after that its been a breeze!

Our son got his g-tube at 8 months of age. We struggled with the decision, but it was necessary. He was only 12 lbs when we had it done and a year later he is over 22 lbs. We have not been back in the hospital for IV's since then. The first few weeks were a little rough, but now it seems like no big deal and it really helps when he is sick and doesn't eat--we can still get calories into him with the tube.
You can PM me as well if you want any more info. about the surgery or anything like that.
