I recently read the post regarding the H1N1 Flu & There didn't seem to be too much information for CFer's in the responses. I'm a member of Cystic-L and remembered that we recently had a discussion regarding this pandemic. We have a gentlemen member that is very involved in the tracking of this Pandemic, and he was able to shed A LOT of light on this subject. SO, here is the post that started the conversation, and his response. This went on for many messages, so if anyone would like the proceeding messages, or this gentleman's E-Mail for your own personal questions (which he has welcomed), please feel free to let me know! It was quite a big help to everyone involved, and I hope you all can benefit as well!

I am fearful b/c my daughter is in choir and does talk to some of the teens. We didn't make it to church Sun b/c we were so tired and over slept but Cassi does go to choir on Wed. So I am afraid there may be some teens that haven't been dx;d and @ church. I fear Collin getting it.

I'm sorry to hear you are having to deal with the pandemic now. Unfortunately, I am not surprised you are uninformed. Reporting from the WHO, CDC, and the MSM is absolutely horrid. Now, let me try to get you some information.

Here is some basic influenza information including a history of this pandemic: http://www.flutrackers.com/for...owthread.php?t=100175

The parent site, http://www.flutrackers.com is itself a very good resource (I am a member there).

If your daughter can avoid contact with any of the individuals for the next couple of weeks that would be best. Contrary to popular belief people are contagious with influenza from about 24 hours prior to the onset of symptoms and for potentially several weeks (I don't have the exact length immediately available). *Contagiousness does not end with the end of fever.* Children, in particular, can shed virus for many weeks after they appear to be well.

I am blogging the pandemic (although probably not information there you are looking for) at http://diaryofafluyear.blogspot.com

Also, if you wouldn't mind, go to http://flutracker.rhizalabs.com and leave a comment there stating where the camp was and where the community outbreak is ongoing. They are monitoring the spread of the pandemic. Alternately, you can give me the information and I will post there. I am a moderator on that board.

If you have specific questions or if you think your doctors do not appreciate the seriousness of the pandemic (many don't recognize how bad it has the potential to become) please feel free to email me directly. I have been following this very closely since April and, sadly, I probably know more than most of the doctors do.

Hi Chelsea

Just to let you know (I have posted on this subject a few times), here where I live we have just come through the flu season. It seems (from what I've seen and heard) that it hasnt really impacted us that badly.

We have had about 100 people die here, and most of them have had underlying illness. No other info has been released though, so I dont know how many of them may have had cf (if any). It seems to be a much worse flu season, everyone seems to have had it this year. no one has any immunity to the H1N1, so I guess that we all have more of a chance of coming into contact with it.

The testing for it went out the window, too many people. My oldest cfer thought he had it and was tested, weeks later they told him that he was negative for it. So, if he needed tamiflu it was too late for it.

It doesnt seem to have impacted the cf community that badly that I know of. It has been like any other flu season, but if you have the flu you dont know if you have H1N1 or not. The best thing is that people are using hand disinfectant and there are notices everywhere asking people to cover their mouths if they cough and wash their hands.

I'm glad that it isn't as severe as everyone is expecting it to be! I just thought to post this info in case anyone still needed some answers! Thanks for letting me know your experiences with it though!!
