Had the visit with the RE today

My husband and I had our consult with the RE today. The visit went great, although part of me is slightly freaking out because because we are probably going to do our first IUI in a few weeks! I figured we do all the testing this cycle and start IUI the next one, but we are going to do the testing within the first two weeks of this cycle and then immediately do an IUI if everything looks good - so I didn't expect it to be so soon!

So here's the plan: CD 3 bloodwork, thyroid testing, and an HSG for me. A sperm assessment for my husband. If everything looks good, we are going to start off doing a few natural IUI cycles. In order to minimize the risk of multiples.

Although I am ovulating on my own, the doctor wants to do an HCG trigger on CD 14 just because OPKs haven't been super reliable for me (sometimes I don't get a positive until the day of or the day after I O). And then we'll do the IUI.

He said the CM could definitely be the problem, or CF could cause issues with the cilia in the fallopian tubes being able to sweep the egg through - I've never heard of this potential issue before. (And, of course, I may not have any problems at all, afterall, we've only been trying for 7 cycles, but the doctor was concerned enough to get started).

Oh, and the doctor said I don't have to modify my caffeine intake (because I'm already under 300 mg a day), wine drinking, or exercise - Yahooo!

Good for you! How exciting. I never thought about CF effecting our fallopian tubes. So could the Robitussin or Mucinex still help that since it thins it? Did he say there was anything you could do to help it out?

Good Luck with everything!! We'll be waiting to hear how things turn out in the next coming months!!

Kristen,

That's great news! It's so exciting to start the process isn't it? I was in the same boat as you...doing natural cycles to reduce the chance for multiples. I was so afraid to have more than one. I didn't know how the pregnancy would affect my body and I surely didn't want it to be even further compromised by having more than one baby in there. Although if it happened naturally then it was meant to be that way But anyhow, good luck to you guys and I'm hoping that you'll be able to conceive quickly with natural IUI. Keep us posted!
