HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A

I had to take my 12 year old son to the doc today.

About 6 months ago he got what looked like maybe a splinter in the heel of his foot. I told him we would keep an eye on it but I thought it would be okay.

About a week ago as he was walking out of school I noticed he was walking weird. I asked him what was wrong? He said "that bump on my foot is really hurting".

I took a look at it and it looked terrible!! I couldn't believe it was still there!!

The doc says it is a planter's wart and that they are very painful. They sent us to a foot specialist who says they will have to open the skin and then get in there and freeze it. The appointment is for September 6th.

Has anyone had this procedure before? Will it be painful? Will he need to be off his feet for a couple of days?

Thanks for any advice!!

All warts are caused by viruses of some sort. Plantar's warts differ from usual warts in the sense that they have "roots" that extend into the foot. He'll be on crutches for about a week or so once they remove it. The removal process isn't painful, but the result of the doctor digging around in the foot to get it out does hurt some. But they give you a shot of lidocaine to help during the actual procedure. All in all it's not a big deal, but he'll have to make sure to keep his foot clean and dry while it heals.

I am not kidding when I say this but banana peel before surgery might be helpful. I have had them and my daughter recently had warts on 2 of her toes. You place a piece of banana peel directly onto the wart and cover with a little gauze and secure with adhesive overnight. You may have to put a sock on to keep it in place. In less than 2 weeks all the warts were gone! Be sure to put the inside of the peel on it not the outside.

I don't believe hers were planters but it might be worth a shot.

Best of luck...

I had a huge plantar wart when I was a kid. They didn't have to "dig" into my foot though to get it. There was kind of a hole in my skin where the wart was so they could gat at it without cutting into me. I had to go in twice to freeze it all the way. It hurt at the time and was a little sore for a few days, but I would say having dental work is more painful than what I had. I didn't have to have cruches. I had to keep the area clean and wear cotton socks all the time for about a week.
