I would love to know if anyone on this forum has had PGD successfully and would be able to tell us a bit about it. We are desparate to have another child, but cannot risk another with CF.

Can anyone help?????

Someone on healthboards.com under the CF forum has posted quite extensively on this topic. She was able to get insurance to pay for everything. She'll tell you exactly the wordering on the letters to the insurance company, etc.

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis ? Basically test the eggs before they're implanted via in-vitro to see if the fertilized eggs have a genetic disease (CF), are carriers or don't have anything. Liza

Nearly right......it is the embryos when they are 8 cells in size which are tested to see if they have CF. Those without CF, or carriers, can be implanted if there are any.

My husband and I did not do PGD with our IVF because I am not a carrier but I was plesantly surprised to find many doctors in my area and around the US who were willing to put me in touch with their CF patients who had done IVF. I had a million questions and wanted to talk to someone who had been there done that, not a doctor who does the procedures. I was put in touch with 2 couples that way and we still talk all of the time.

In addition to checking out that other website, if you have time, email some local IVF clinics, provide your contact information and ask them if they have any patients who did PGD because of CF carrier status. Ask that if they do, if they can pass on your contact information and ask if the patients might be willing to contact you. That way, no HIPPA is violated, and if someone is willing, they can contact you.

Good luck,
