Boost plus shakes, ensure plus shakes if you can stand them are a good idea and much better than those scandi products both in nutrition and taste. if you are covered by a medicaid program, sometimes they will cover the costs. In WA medicaid use to cover my husbands 200 boost plus shakes a month. some other insurance companies will also cover them if they are part of your CF treatment dictated by a doctor. Ours doesn't offer it as "coverage" but we are still appealing all the way up-we'll see what happesn. They also have fruity flavors as well as the standard vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. You should also closely watch your protein intake if you are concerned about weight/health, because that is what helps build and maintain muscle. General rule of thumb is you sould eat as much protein as you weigh, more if you are doing any sort of weight lifting to try and put on muscle.
My husband usually sticks to chicken cooked many different ways (in peanut sauce, skinless baked with seasonings, skin on baked in flour lowrys season salt and garlic sakt, chicken in a chilli garlic sauce (oriental aisle), chicken on george forman grill with lemon pepper seasoning. And sauted or no-sauted steaks. A good tender steak is a loin top sirloin cut with a strip of fat on the side (gives more flavor as cooking) the verbage you use for the meat cutter is "loin top sirloin with the lifter cut off" it looks long and kind of skinny. We broil the steaks in the oven in about 5-10 minutes depending on if we want fully cooked, medium rare...Sometimes we sautee them the evening before in soy sauce and butter, terriaki sauce, seasonings with slight butter and oil...anything we can think of to vary. Then pull it out the next day and cook it. I am a very picky (very) and thuroughly enjoy all of the above entrees with him. Instant wild rice is also good, better for you than bleached rice but still cooks fast.
