Headaches

Since December one of my boys has been having alot of headaches and sometimes with dizziness. He has lost weight, and tired alot more than normal. He has been checked for CFRD, had his cortisol levels checked (he is hydrocortisone dependent), and today had his eyes checked, all results have come back fine. Im starting to get really frustrated as I seem to be the only one who is really concerned about it. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Mel

I'm a 40 year old CFer who suffers from headaches and it's all sinuses and your child's is probably the same thing. I've had sinis surgery 7 times and will again next month. It's a very common problem with Cf people. I would definately get him to see an ENT. (Ear, Nose and Throat Dr. just in case you didn't know.)

We are having the same issue with our 10 year old daughter, she is still eating and not losing weight but she has really bad headaches. We have taken her to the eye doc and her vision is a little off but not so bad where she should be crying with headaches, i talked to her CF doc and we now have an appt. for a sinus CT. I know your frustration but i would talk with your CF doc about sinus issues and have them refer you to an ENT

Good Luck

I agree..get him to an ENT specialist, smells like sinus trouble. I get terrible headaches when they get all clogged up. It hurts to press above my eyes as well as my cheekbones when they get inflamed. I hope your son gets the relief he deserves, I will be thinking of you both. On a side note I used to get headaches all the time.

I got allergy tested- turns out I have horrible allergies.

As long as I use my Nasacort AQ, the headaches go away. But I mean use it - daily, without forgetting :p

Never had a sinus surgery....

I would suggest allergy tests as well.

He has regular visits to ENT as he has trouble with polyps, they tried him on everything to get rid of them and in the end put him on prednisone. They said they didnt want to do surgery because once they start they would probably have to do it every couple of years. Since the prednisone he has been on Rhinocourt and hasnt had any problems. Would sinus problems attribute to the dizziness too? He also has trouble with his vocal chords (they think!) The Drs tried to insert a tiny camera through his nose and he freaked so they didnt see anything, but went by the results of his brother.
How do they check for sinus problems, is it a catscan?
Thanks again
Mel

Yes, a cat scan.
If sinus' check out OK, this is just a shot in the dark, but with any unexplained weight gain/loss I would suggest they check his thyroid function next time they draw blood.
If he feels dizzy and kind of off balance, it could be an inner ear issue, have they checked that?
Does anyone here have low blood pressure? I think that can cause dizziness, but I'm not sure if headaches are a side effect of low blood pressure.
There, now you have a few more things to check, just what you wanted, huh?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I agree with having his sinuses checked out.

Also I was feeling similar about a month or two ago and I thought I was having blood sugar problems. Turns out one of my medications was to high and it was causing me to really not feel well. You might want to check with the Dr about levels of medications.

Also the medication that made me feel bad was something that I had been taking the same amount for about a year and it just started happening so...

good luck

I had my pollups out 3 times. The last time was in 1997. Pollup remove has come a long way. He may not need the surgery more than once or twice. It was the best thing I ever had done. My sinuses still bother me but not nearly as much. Like today, I have a sinus headache but it has rained for several days and I have an allergy to mold so my alergies are acting up.
