It has been a while since I have came to this site so I wanted to kind of re introduce myself.
I wanted to give every one a little detail on who I am. My name is Melissa and I am 39yrs old. I was diagnosed with CF March 1974. I was born December 17th 1973. I had been doing good with cf until I turned 15 at that time I had pneumonia so bad I had a lot of scar tissue that made it impossible to eradicate it out of my lungs. So, I had to have a quarter of my lower lobe on the left lung removed. I had to stay in the hospital for 45 days because my O2 sats weren't coming above 70% and I was failing in maintaining weight.
Finally 1989 I was out of the hospital and meant my future husband. I was very skinny I think I only weighed 100lbs and I'm six feet tall so I was very sick looking. But Randy my husband of 25 years took a chance with me. I had some pretty scary things happen to me so far in life.
Back in 2000 I had sever hemoptysis and lost 4 quarts of blood. I was about to start transfusions when the blood finally stopped and I was in ICU for 2 days. I still fight hemoptysis but have not had any major episodes except for the July 2000.
I have Diabetes since June 2005. I have a port a cath in my left upper chest. I have been doing well considering my cf. I do take Kalydeco. My genes are DF508/G551D. My current lung function is at 52% which is up from 38% two years ago before the Kalydeco. I am also up on my weight 194lbs as of September 2013.
I'm hoping to meet many friends here. I'm kinda alone with cf don't have many online friends to chat too.
