Wow! Way to go! Or not? I always thought weight was a good thing? Anyways, I've weighed about 15lbs more than I 'should' but it felt good! I didn't have to worry about weight! And then when I did get really sick it was okay that I lost some weight because I lost about 20lbs! So then I was 'normal' weight. So to me, I say 'EAT'!!!! I love to eat! we can always use the extra weight for when we get sick!

Let me see if I've got this right...

You are 172 centimetres tall, you used to weigh 56 kilograms (which would have been the perect weight for your height), and now you weigh 15 kg more, is that right? Please correct me if I hav misunderstood.

(for americans, 5'8" height, used to weigh 123 lbs, gained 33 lbs)

Some medications can cause too much weight, you may want to ask your doctor if anything you are taking has that side effect and see about switching to something else.

Unfortuanately I think those medications are mostly prescribed only for women, so I'm afraid I cannot help much. However, I know there are others on this site who are familiar with them, so I'm sure someone will come along soon who can be able to help. =-)

I am, 23, as you are a bigger CFer... I'm in Canada. I have also gotten sick and lost alot of weight from time to time. Stretching, toning, crunches, and walking are among the best ways to slim some. Like Hairgirl has said it's not nessacarly a bad thing because when we get sick it's nice to have some weight to fight with.

Do you gain the weight "all over" or for example just at the belly? I know a swiss woman with cf who had a big tumor in her belly (no cancer), but her doc said its normal for cf to have a big belly...
You don´t take any cortisone/prednisone?
How are your stools? Maybe you will also do ok with less Kreon but don´t gain any more weight?

If you have energy, try doing some cardio. I run a few times a week, and in the last month, I've lost nearly 8 lbs. (not a good thing for me though). Also, if you do even light weight lifting daily, it ups your metabolism and you'll burn more calories and fat... another thing that helped me to loose the weight.

Good luck.

I also gained a lot of weigth with CF. Weight hasn't been an issue for me since puberty, but I sort of hit a quasi-middle-aged spread thing. You're a bit younger than me, but our bodies and metabloism does change pver the years, if it isn't meds related.

Thats good that you have gained weight. I myself was always pretty thin until I got older and my metabolism slowed down. But you don't need to gain to much weight because it could lead to other problems like Diabetes which is what happened to me . So my advice (take or leave it) is to ask your Dr. what your ideal weight should be and try and reach that goal by exercising and eating healthy. Stay away from fatty foods or fast food places.

(I don't know what that is in metric terms)

Walking 45 miles a week has really had the chub fall off me. Now if I can just find the motivation to go back to the gym and do weight training like I used to. Days off = want to lounge around, not work out. Gotta incorporate weight training into my life like it used to be. As far as weight in general, it's good to have atleast some extra on you if you have CF. One real good bout with being sick can slim you down a good deal.
