Hi All,

I tried searching the archives, but couldn't find information about financial assistance for the vest for a CF family whose insurance company won't pay. Any resources you know of?

Thanks, Stacy

When I bought my vest a year ago, my insurance helped pay for some of it but the vest company said if it was denied there were grants that would help pay it. So you might want to check that out.

Hi..

The vest ppl are really and I mean really great.. They will never take a vest out of a home if you can't afford one.. I would first get your doctor to write a prescription for the vest.. Do you have a social worker or something? They can call and do it for you.. if not the Vest company themselves will fight your insurance company for you or... they have many different scholarships and programs...

I have insurance and I know my vest is under durable medical equipment and my insurance is billed monthly.. for a certain amount of years.. I don't know......

You can go to www.thevest.com and get the customer service number and speak to them.....

Good luck
Jennifer

Stacy, Hill-Rom is wonderful to work with. You could call them and they will be more then happy to give you many options for assistance. Cale has done so well with the vest, it is a true blessing...especially since he fought manual pt since the diagnosis.

I suggest contacting the company. They are A1 in my book. Also just a ?? when U say your insurance wont cover it is that because benefits for equipment isnt part of your coverage or they dont deem it necessary. If its considered not needed that can be appealed. Just a thought!

What is the reason that they are denying it?? What kind of insurance do you have?? They probably need medical necessity from your doctor. and then your insurance should cover it as a benefit for equipment...My insurance paid on a monthly basis as a rental until they reached the purchase price. (in other words, the amount they paid out reached the purchase price of around $15,000..) They paid all of it except $1000 and now I am paying the rest on a payment plan with the vest company...Have your doctor contact the Vest people and they should do the rest, but find out what the reason is for the denial...Cystic Fibrosis is a valid reason for the medical necessity for the vest..

I have a question about Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Our current insurance policy does not include DME but because of a job change we are changing insurance. The new policy has a limit of $5,000 per year on DME. It is nice to here that the company bills monthly (I hope this is the case) over few years. I was expecting that after the $5,000 we would have to come up with the rest of the money somehow. I know the VEST, nebs & compressors, Acapella are all considered DME. What other equipment do you have/need that is considered DME?
