Help me identify this nebulizer and how to sterilize it

Ok, I got some new nebulizers and at school, in the apt., there is no dishwasher. My nurse has always told me that I can just soak the nubulizer parts in warm, soapy water for 10 min. and then rinse well and then boil them for another 10 min and let dry completely. Well....I got some that are rather small and the bottom is a light, clear plastic "bowl like" with a purple plastic piece inside the other part. Then it has a T-shaped neck and a mouth piece. Well....I washed them as I could any other of the nebs I've had in the future, but I had no idea that upon boiling them, the bottom "purple PIECES" would warp and therefore become useless. So, I'm seeing if any of you all are in the situation where no dishwasher is available to you and if you happen to have this particular nebulizer how you go about sterilizing it. Thanks!

i dont know what neb it is but i assume it is a disposable type and im pretty sure you dont boil those lol. i personally wouldnt bother boiling nebs anyway. ive never done anything to sterilise mine. hot soapy water is fine and make sure they are completely dry before use. if you really want to sterilise them you can by neb sterlising solution from chemists.

I think I understand what kind of neb you are using, and using hot soapy water should be fine. You should be getting instructions on how to clean the nebs as you get them new - if not, you could call whoever you got them from and I'm sure they would be happy to let you know. I also use a disposable neb, but it is a little sturdier and holds up to boiling just fine. It is a Parli Neb, and is supposed to last 6 mo and then you replace it, but I usually use mine longer until the little flaps stop working as well. I do like to boil mine every once in a while just to get the plastic really clean.

Hi,

It sounds like a disposable neb to me. Our doctors tell us to put them in vinegar for 30 mins then shake off fluid and let it dry.

with the vinegar solution I was taught it was 3 parts water 1 part vinegar. I have done that before and it seems to help.

The CFF no longer recommends using vinegar to sterilize/clean nebs.

Check out their website at www.cff.org, it should list ways to clean and sterilize nebs.

soak it in alcohol for 5 minutes or hydogen peroxide for 30 minutes, good luck with the semester

and if you don't have a lot of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol around (beer doesn't count -- needs to be 70) bleech is very economical as the cf foundation recommends 1 part bleech to 50 parts water. Someone's always got that on hand.

Ask for another nebulizer! I know the Pari LC can be boiled. We we were advised to boil and then rinse with sterile water (water that has been boiled for 10 minutes). Good luck!
