Hemoptysis and Hormones

The WEIRDEST development in my health recently has to be this hemoptysis thing, but what makes it weird is that I only have it at one time. Right after sex. (specifically orgasm, if I don't orgasm, I don't have hemoptysis)
This is only since I've been pregnant. (Sorry tmi, but hey thats life.)
I'll sit up, have one or two coughs max and there's red streaks in my sputum. Thats it, then I'm fine.
I can't believe it could be from heavier breathing or coughing-I do that all day long! I mean with chest pt being 8 months preg, I cough HARD, and I don't bleed after.
Has anybody ever heard of this?
There has got to be some hormonal connection. I've never had this in my life, and didn't have it with my 1st preg.

The only possible explanation I could think of this is that since you are pregnant, you probably have more blood volume, and when you are having sex (and more specifically having an orgasm), your blood pressure probably rises quite a bit, causing more pressure on the blood vessels in your lungs. I have heard of hemoptysis being more prevalent during pregnancy. I myself had one episode when I was about 6 weeks pregnant, but (knock on wood) I haven't had anymore so far. I suppose there is possibly a hormone connection as well, but this is the only thing I could think of. Good luck!

That would explain why this has only been happening the last 3 months of the pregnancy, when blood volume doubles and triples. Interesting...

LostMiler you cracked me up. I needed it too. I'm working on Great Strides and it's getting a little heavy.
C, Orgasms are one of the most common triggers for hemoptysis. Like people said your blood pressure increases VERY suddenly. Another thing that would similate this is suddenly sprinting for a minute from a resting heartrate. One thing that might help is if you do something to get warmed up with regards to your heartrate...maybe some frisky play :)

Ok, so BRING on the hemoptysis!

haha. Wow, I had no idea that orgasms were a trigger for hemoptysis. Never heard that one before. It really makes sense though, especially for a pregnant woman.

I guess hubby and I better enjoy it now bc once LO is here...that department is going to be a little dry for a while. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
