Hi, I'm new to the board

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading the forums for a few months and I thought it was time to register and jump in. My brother has CF. He will be 39 in November. My brother and I are very close and it hurts me so much seeing him suffer with this horrible disease.

I was going to ask if anyone has lost hearing due to Tobra IVs but then I saw a thread where someone had mentioned it. My brother had a really severe lung infection a few months ago and was on 2 IV meds as well as Cipro. Since then he has experienced loss of hearing. I was so sad to read that thread to find it out that it's most likely permanent loss. I've been trying so hard to keep my brother positive about it just being a temporary effect of the medicine. He's so depressed now that he has the hearing loss on top of everything else he's going through. Now, I'm not sure whether I should tell him about the thread. He's trying to get in to see a specialist but his insurance won't pay for an audiologist, only an ENT.

I would be very interested in talking with other siblings of CF patients. I'm not sure if PMs are enabled on this forum but if they are, please feel free to send me a message.
