Hi. I was wondering how many of you use the high dose ibuprofen. My cf doc wants us to get my daughter started on it (she is 4) but i am so scared of the side effects. She said since her fev's are 115% right now that it would be good to start while it's up because it can help it stay up. Any comments or suggestions about it would be wonderful. Thanks!

I took ibuprofen for about 5 or 6 years. I got off it last November. I've gotten off about five different anti-inflammatory drugs in the last few years. I did it by reducing the acidity that was causing inflammation:

My son Austin has been on it for over a year now but he is 7. I didn't know they did it for that young though. He had to go and have blood levels drawn at 2 -4-6 hours after administering the ibuprofen. He was placed on 600mgs twice daily.

Then he went in after a year and they checked his levels again and this time increased it to 800mgs twice a day.

But whenever he is hospitaized he is taken off of the ibuprofen so he doesnt get bleeds.

I am assuming it is helping! We haven;t had any problems with him being on it. He is typically hopitalized once a year for tuneups but last year he was in 2 times. Once he cultured PA.
