High risk insurance?

I had a friend tell me of a loved one of hers that had their child's insurance dropped because the CF child "showed improvement". This doesn't seem legal or right to me. Do any of you know of any type of insurance policy that would drop you when you show improvement?
I am unfamiliar with high risk insurance but have heard it mentioned before and I wondered if maybe the family had this type of policy on their child and because the child has stabilized and is gaining weight and for the most part doing well if they no longer consider the child a risk?
Does this sound like a situation any of you have heard about before?

I personally have never heard of this type of insurance, but if "high risk" is a requirement in the health status & improvement is obtained than I can see the insurance companies side. The ???? comes in what the policy actually says & if there are SPECIFIC guidelines such as weight, lung function, meds being used that listed like what Social Security has for CF. If your friend cant find out answers, maybe she should contact Beth Sufian, Attorney who has CF & specializes in the rights of those with CF. This parent might very well have just gotten screwed because they didnt know the fine print. You have to be sooooo careful with insurance! Please let us know what happens so if this topic comes up again, we have information to pass along!

SSI (Medicaid) will drop you if you show improvement that puts you into the 'normal' range. What a sucky system - darned if you do, and darned if you don't.

Thanks for the Beth Sufian contact, I had forgotten about her-I'll pass her info on to this family & will update you all if I hear anything else regarding this.
I also wasn't aware of the Medicaid thing either.
Any further info or opinions would be appreciated if anyone else has anything on this.
Thanks

Maybe she was talking about social security benefits? This can happen with a state funded insurance coverage and is perfectly legal-although not always "right" or fair.
