hey everybody-

just wondering if any guys.. or girls ever experienced hair loss. Not in like chunks, but when i brush my hair, and take a shower, i have a lot of single pieces that come out. I could just be being paranoid or w/e, just wanted to see if anybody else had this same 'problem.' Even if you don't have this, does anyone think that this could be CF related?

thanx

I was just complaining about that to a friend today. I thought it might be from the constant IV antibiotics I have been on. The only other thing different for me this year is the steroids which I was on, but I have been off of them for at least a month. I color my hair & am afraid to touch it up because I dont want to harm it anymore. I have healthy looking hair, but my brush is full when I get done. I can run my fingers through my hair & end up with strands tangled in my fingers.<img src="i/expressions/brokenheart.gif" border="0">

Have your thyroid gland checked. Hair falling out is one of the first signs that your thyroid is not functioning as it should. Other indicators can include extreme fatigue and dry skin. I went through all of this about a year ago and feel much better now that I am on medication.

That happens to me as well, especially when I'm in the shower and washing my hair, I can sit there (well stand there) and pull out a bunch of strands. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have a medical condition, it could simply be hair falling out. Same thing happens to a lot of my other friends (who are perfectly healthy). It's annoying, but as far as I know it just happens.
To the last poster, were you losing a large amount of hair perhaps and not the small amount that the poster is describing?

Every few years you lose about twice as much hair as normal for a couple months. I'm not sure why but my doc and hair dresser said the same thing.

I sometimes lose a lot of hair after I've been on heavy rounds of IV antibiotics. Something my docs confirmed can be related.

Not sure if your hair loss may be related to that or not.

Yeah, same here..when I shower my hands always have hair on them and it annoys me haha, and then after the shower I can just pull hair out of my head for days. My mom keeps commenting on how thin my hair is getting since I used to have fairly thick hair. Maybe it IS a CF thing and she's not just paranoid?

I read somewhere that a person normally looses 20 strands of hair a day.
I thought before that my hair was becoming brittle and thin when I noticed how much hair was in my brush but I talked to the doctor about it and he said it was normal, even with all of my meds, and if it were thinning or becomming brittle when I get my hair cut they'd mention something about it.
so... I hope that helps. If any.
