What natural remedies and homeopathy has anyone tried with good results? I have tried:

curcumin 2x day
raw garlic (supposed to be a mucous thinner) - 1 clove per day
whole foods supplements (like Juice-Plus) - 1 pill per day
echinacea/goldenseal - when sick
cayenne - no longer taking

I can't say that any have had an outstanding effect, but overall I think at different tims they have improved my health.

I'd love to hear of other tried remedies!

My daughter presently uses:
Curcumin 2 times a day
JuicePlus
Tea Tree Oil (diffuser in room)

**Have noticed a big improvement in digestion since introduction of Curcumin - have been able to decrease the amount of pancreatic enzymes**

If you cannot taste it as a seasoning, then it must be very old. =-) Either that, or very mild. Anyway, Cayenne pepper is just generally good for health. It helps digestion, circulation, sinus congestion, and (for some reson) healing ulcers. It can also be used on the skin as a pain relief.

Although, just using it as a seasoning won't give you nearly enough to make any medicinal difference. (Most hebs and stuff are that way) Supplements are more condensed, though, and usually work better. =-)

(Ceyenne pepper is my favorite! Can you tell? he he)

Maybe it heals ulcers by BURNING them shut with its spiciness! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">

Please be careful...

i get really worried when i hear about herbals & although i am a believer just please use good judgement and exercise caution when selecting herbs. Although most natural products won't interact with CF meds, if you are on any sort of transplant medication/immunosuppressant PLEASE consult with your doctor before getting any herbals. They CAN interact. There have been reports of lost transplants and even death <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> in some people who have self medicated with herbal products (St Johns Wort is a big offender) b/c they interact with transplant medications.

Sorry if that was a lecture... my b/f has a transplant and i just get so worried that he might take something that will interact... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

If you are not a transplant patient, I figure you can play all you want with alternative therapies and herbals. However, it seems counter intuitive and completely illogical if you are a transplant patient to take supplements or perform therapies that are designed to boost your immune system. That is exactly what you don't want.

The way I see it is if you get a transplant you are relinquishing all your will and faith in your doctors who perform and manage your on going transplant therapy.

I have had excellent results with using herbs for specific instances (like urinary tract, sinus and yeast infections). I've also had really good results using Reliv nutritional supplement (my experience with Reliv is recorded on <A href="http://www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/Reliv">www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/Reliv</A>). I've cut out certain dairy products that seem to bother me (not all do) - no more ice cream for me. It has been amazing to me to learn how many people experience adverse effects from foods. Most people have one or two foods that just don't sit well with them. Some people are more sensetive and have more foods that offend them or a couple of foods that affect them severely. I think searching out food sensetivities is a great place to start. In my experience, herbs are most effective when you have a good nutritional foundation. If you are deficient in certain nutrients, it will be difficult to absorb other nutrients or use them effectively. Example: if you are vitamin D deficient, calcium will not be well absorbed even if you are taking supplements. All nutrients are interrelated to others, some enhance some negate. Having a good foundation ensures that the supplements you do use will be most effective. Because nutrition and our bodies needs and workings are so complex, it is often not enough to say, "If you're going to take acidophilus, you need to take HSO, too." You also need to think about your diet - what fungus producing or fungus feeding foods are you ingesting.Because of the need for a solid, balanced nutritional base, my experience and the experiences of the dozens of people with CF that I've talked to over the last couple of years I highly recommend using Reliv as your foundation. Other supplements can be used as well, though you probably won't need as many. The other thing to think about is taking herbs in teas or tinctures so that they are best absorbed. Pills are minimally effective and definitely NOT cost-effective because of the small percentage that actually is digested and biologically available for use. Certain vitamins are more effective from one derivitive than another. Vitamin E is one. When you're already dealing with a less effective digestive system, it is important to find the most easily absorbable form of whatever nutrient you are considering. If you would like elaboration on any of these things in particular, you can email me (<A href="mailto:jaloughlin3@sbcglobal.net">jaloughlin3@sbcglobal.net</A>). Some more specifics on certain remedies are detailed on <A href="http://www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/wellness">www.geocities.com/MurrensNatureMama/wellness</A>.

holly is right, the best thing to start off is a good diet(organic whole foods things like that) if you cut back on the things full of phosphates and sodium compounds--doritos, cured meat, processed things you will feel better right awayi will name couple of supps that i takecurcuminastragalusseleniumalpha lipolic acidb-50some otherspeople might say ooooh herbs are bad, but realize these things are all plant derived and are easy on the liver, so you cant go wrong
