Courtney,

I do not know how expensive it would be, ours was covered by insurance. All you need to do is have your hunny go to his doctor and tell them that he wants a genetic testing. It will take about 2 weeks to a month to get back. The only thing is that they only test for like the 40 main CF gene deffects and there are actually something like over 200. So there is a small very small chance that your hunny could still be a carrier, as with everyone who is tested by the regular test. You can ask to have an extensive testing done but I know that will cost more and not sure the details about that. We just had the regular genetic testing done on nick.

DH had a 97 panel test done and it came back negative. All of my doctors (2 CF doctors, OB/GYN, and RE) were satisfied with that result. There are over 2000 forms of the gene, but the large majority of carriers have one of the 60 most common genes. So, with a negative result in 97 panel tests, the odds are extremely small that DH is a carrier. I don't know the cost because insurance covered it, but I'm sure it's more the greater # of variations of the gene you test for.

We had a full panel done and it costed $2500. And none of it was covered by insurance. Which I think is incredibly lame!!
