Hi all.

I was wondering if you have any great gift ideas for children in the hospital?
A friend in our local CF community is in the hospital - she's a 7 year old girl. I'd like to get a gift for her and for her mom while they are there....

What kinds of things have you guys received that have worked well, or not so well, at the hospital?

when my daughter was last hospitalized my sister got her art supplies, which she enjoyed.

Let me know!

A cute stuffed animal (one that can be put in the washer to wash off all the hospital germs) to cuddle duriong procedures would be nice. My daughter loves are supplies, but there tends to be a lot of that at our hospital. Maybe a cheap game they could play together, Yatzee or Memory (would be educational too!) Or if they have a DVD player, you could rent them some newer movies to watch from the redbox or local video store. Some snacks that they like would probably be great too (maybe some make some cookies or brownies). Hospital food really stinks after a while! That's all I can think of right now.

Seriously, the best thing a friend could have brought me would be a homemade meal. Even a bag of half a dozen bagels and cream cheese or a box of muffins.... something that would help me save money and time. I had a friend once offer to hang out with Alyssa while Rich and I went out for dinner. It was a huge help for my sanity.

As for the kiddos, we were overwhelmed with art supplies from everyone, and yet my daughter used them all!!! Alternatively, any game or toy that will take a lot of time to use. Time is sooo hard to fill in the hospital.

Good luck!!

Wasn't a gift but it was something we'd picked up at the Science Museum prior to our stay. It was a tube filled with little egyptian characters -- they had other ones that were filled with different bugs, animals, knights, reptiles. All with a description for each one on the side.

I've since gotten a Tube book filled with different scary creatures -- loch ness monster, frankenstein, dracula that came with a short story describing each character and a game that can be played with them. Do a search online for Groovy Tube Book -- I got one at Amazon.
