How do you manage your cfrd? I do carb counting, its working all right but sometimes can be a pain in the butt so I was wondering what other options where out there.

Thanks

None ? Depending on degree, it's either that, pills, perhaps (if it isn't severe) or ignoring it (not a good idea, probably). Maybe you can look into a pancreas transplant or other experimental treatment, once those come full circle.

Do you have an insulin pump? I plan to get one, as the needling is by far the worst part (mere carb counting is just annoying, not bang-head-against-the-wall annoying).

As an aside, CF diabetes is one of the worst pains in the butt this illness can give you. (Other than, perhaps, a literal pain in the butt from CF-related arthritis.)

I do the same, carb counting. Sometimes I get annoyed because I would just like to enjoy a meal without having to worry about insulin and taking pills. But yet again I am able to eat whatever I want and just adjust my insulin. It's better than having a restricted diet.

Right now I am doing sliding scale Regular insulin in addition to Metformin. They recenty added the insulin because I am on high doses of steroids and unable to keep my sugars under control.

In the long term, if I have to stay on insulin, there is no way that I am going stay with the sliding scale, to me, this is a reactive mode instead of pre-emptive. Counting carbs seems like the most logical approach to me...so I will have to see.. through the idea of counting carbs doesn't appeal to me, I think in general it is much healthier for my body to not have periods of high sugars at all....
