How long do you wait...

How long do you wait before you call the docror when you are not feeling "normal"? I feel like sometimes I call too soon and sometimes I call to late. I would like to hear what other's with CF do.

I am a firm believer in "nipping it in the bud" right away. If I am coughing thu the night for about 3 days then I call him to discuss. Coughing thru the night is a sign for me that something is up. Obviously, if I have a fever and coughing then I call right away. Usually when I get real sick, it starts with a sore throat and moves to coughing. So basically I do not wait long. As a child my parents waited long to try to get the mucus out of me and then I finally went into the hospital when I was soooo sick. As an adult now I do not wait cause it is easier to get better when I am not starting from such a low point. Hope that helps. Do not worry about calling your doctor too much or too soon. CF is a disease that needs to be treated quickly!

Just my opinion.

I agree with Jennifer. It needs to be nipped in the bud, early. It doesnt do me any good to call our dr. He just phone medicates (via his nurse) dd then gripes at the next appointment because I didnt bring her in...she has her monthly checkup on Monday and I am not going to let him intimidate me again about it. I am all talk today...lol...cause it is a bad day..I will probably be my little compliant self on Monday.
I just dont know how to get him to give her better care. What should I do?

For me, I tend to wait, mostly because the dr.'s can't do anything for me unless I am sick....one two IV antibiotics work for me so 1) I don't want to be on them too much. 2) they can't do anything else!!!!!!! I'm in the same boat right now, don't feel all the way normal, have had fevers, coughing, chest pain, etc... no blood though!!!!! And I was on meds in Feb. so I've been holding off, I just don't know, I know that if I were to start coughing up blood I would call (though I don't call everytime I do) Anyways, I think you know your body and if you feel like something is going on then yeah, nip it in the bud!!! that's what my feb. one was.

When Kait is sick i do not ever hesitate to call. I used to worry what the docs and nurses thought.... but i really do not care anymore, she is my child and i want her to be treated aggressively.... No regrets when it comes to ones healthcare.

I hope you call your doc. soon

I sometimes wait too long, but most often I call too early and then realize the IV's I was put on did nothing to help since I was pretty much at baseline the whole time anyway..... So, I'm not help, cause usually, I think I go in too often.

I also know that every time I go in feeling crappy, I'm put on IVs, so its a very conscious decision on whether I'm ready for that. If your doc is a bit more passive, I would go in right away just to get their opinion.

I call my doc as soon as I start to feel tight chested or a bit junky. Once my cough starts to appear, that's when I know somethings up.
