My son had a endo and a bronch almos 2 weeks ago on May 1st. after the bronch he started wheezing and coughing pretty bad they said this was normal so they sent him home. He started throwing up every 30 min and a fever 104.5 for 6 hours so they admitted him. They did a x ray at emergency and said pneumonia and the two days later the Pulmo said they found fat cell with the bronch results peliminarys? They said most likely reflux related but not for sure . After a couple days of iv treatment he went home. I called Gi to hear what she had to say and she said his endo was normal and was waiting on pulmo to get back to her before dicussing further with me!. My husband called pulmo to find out for sure what happened with bronch and he said he was waiting for all the reults to come back from the bronch and then he would consult with us! I am concerned this is a cf clinic we are going to CHOP Of Philadelphia. We are newly diagnosed this past summer. Two kids late diagnosis. Hannah is scheduled to get her polyps removed and a bronch in June but now I am to scared. Is this normal can some body throw me a bone if they know what they think they are waiting for? Thanks, Kathy with Christopher 10 and Hannah 5 both with cf

When caleb had his bronch in january i got the results before he even woke up from the anestesia!! His doc came out and told me what he found, and how it went... I had to wait 2 weeks for the cultures to come back after that.. Not sure if this helps at all...

Kathy,
It does sound strange to me that they won't communicate better with you. Although my son has had a couple of bronchs done and he has grown some unusual things that take awhile to grow out on the culture before they can identify and therefore decide how and if they're going to treat it. (2 weeks to even a month) That's just a possibilty of why things seem unclear at this time.

Hello Kathy,
That does sound suspicious. When I was bronched in Dec. 05, my Doc gave a verbal to my family that day. He even called my primary care Doc and gave him a verbal. Something you might try and do is go to medical records and sign a release and get a copy of the dictated report. That report should be in medical records within 48hrs of the procedure (maybe even less). Then firmly tell him you were upset when you didn't get any kind of update within a reasonable time. You are paying him! You are the boss. I would not be confrontational with him or put him on the defensive; just let him know your feelings and if he is a good Doc, he will understand.

does seem a bit long to wait, even here in Scotland, where we tend to be behind on speed on things like results,we only usually have to wait up to 6 days for any results. Could be any number of reasons, absence, holidays workload...Ask soon dont let it linger much longer.

I think what you've got here is a case of a lousy bunch of communicators at the hospital. What they're waiting for is the culture results of whatever stuff they sampled when they did the bronch. The immediate results that folks are talking about are limited to them telling you (a) how things looked visually down there and (b) the sample findings that do not have to grow to be identified (i.e. mucus, aspirated food).

I have learned to force our son's doctors to slow down and clarify what they are and are not telling me. Just because you are a doctor does not mean you are good at explaining things in a clear and logical manner.

My husband talked to the Doctor a couple of days ago and he said not all the results are back yet . I am not sure if I said that Christopher and Hannah have what they are calling atypical cf. He did so far culture pa. He said he wanted to see him in two weeks and have him fitted for a vest at that time.I am not sure what else he could be looking for. He did take samples and when he came out after the bronch he said that there is defientely going on down there . My husband is the one speaking with the Doctor as I have no access to a phone while at work. And he does not push for more info he is happy with less!! They both had negative sweat test Chris with high normal and Hannah very low numbers but they did blood work and found a couple variants and they said they will test them again in a year or so .Hannah has cultured Staph aurues and some other cf bugs and chronic sinus disease with polyps. She is going in for her first sinus clean out and bronch and maybe a tune up in June. Thanks for all the replys! kathy

I had a bronch done a couple of years ago, and my doctor had the results before I even awoke from the procedure. You definitly shouldn't have to wait 2 weeks for it. I would definitly keep following up with your clinic. Seems that there are poor communication skills on your clinics side of things.

I had one because of severe bleeding in my lungs. THey wanted to know where it was coming from. Funny thins is, is that they couldn't find anything, but I continued to bleed until they finally said look, we'll do the embolization regardless of what the bronch says.

The reason Christopher had a bronch was to see what was going on in there. If he had anything growing in there and to take samples.(I am not sure why they take samples) I think they wear trying to rule out pcd a cilary disease. Kathy
