How to get ADEK drops in Great Britain?

An internet friend can help us to get ADEK drops for our son with CF. ADEK drops cannot be found in Sweden.

Anyone know if you need a prescription or something to buy them in GB? Do the drops need to be stored in the refrigerator? Where can you buy them?

Thanks for your help,

Swedish mother with CF child 15 months old

I am from Scotland and have an 18 month old son with CF. I have read messages about this same problem on other message boards that I visit. I think your problem is maybe that there is a shortage of ADEKS. We have had similar problems with the vitamins our son is on. First he was on Abidec, then we couldn't get that then went on to Dalivit then there were problems with that and since then we have been back to Abidec and are now on Dalivit again. We have been told the problem is with it going out of production for a while. Ask your CF doctor about an alternative as they all contain a similar make up of vitamins as far as I'm aware.

The drops are impossible to find. We don't get them here in Australia, so we use the Vitabdeck powder. Its exactly the same, you just mix it in with the apple puree and enzymes and "Bob's your uncle".

They don't need to be refridgerated.

The drops are hard to find at times because of the number of people who have gastric bypass surgery -- they also have problems absorbing ADE, so they've been told to use the ADEKS. In the states I've been able to get them from the CF Services pharmacy, but unfortunately, you need a script for those. Have you checked the Scandiapharm (Sp) website? If they're not back ordered, you can order online directly from them. I'm hoping the shortage is over, noticed my local pharmacy was able to order them in again. Good Luck. L

I had a 1 yr old daughter on adek drops but the supplier in the UK has stopped doing them. I could still buy them from my local ASDA but they are £3.75. You dont have to put it in the fridge but we now get Dalivit Multi vitamins on Prescription in stead of Adek ....
Most lpwcf in the uk are now on Dalivit.....plus a Vit E supplement

Thank you for your answers. In Sweden it has never been possible to buy ADEK, they are not imported here (not "allowed" by "lakemedelverket").

If I understand it correctly they are hard (or impossible) to buy in UK now too?

My daughter takes Dalivit - 1 ml a day. Was a supply problem for a while, but not for long. Her Consultant recommended ADEK (think it was, can't remember) but if it is the one I'm thinking of it contains peanut oil, so isn't really recommended for children under 3 years old. Might be ABIDEC though, can't remember sorry. I reckon Dalivit is the best one going in the UK at the moment though.

The ADEKs are "special" for cfers (not like normal multivitamins) because they are in a water soluable form. You can look it up under <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.axcan.com/productinfoadeks.php?lang=1
