How to save on medical supplies, port flush, huber needle, dressing change kit, etc..

First let me begin by saying that I have no affiliation with this company.

I have a port and have been receiving my monthly port flush supplies (Dressing Change Kit & Huber Needle) from my home healthcare company for $100 per month. Medicare Insurance doesn't cover these expenses.

After a while I started doing some online research and the same exact kit costs less than $10 online.

I contacted a number of companies and found accessmedicalusa.com and the owner Terry who is a Respiratory Therapist by trade.
He owns the company and is happy to sell to CF patients without an RX required.

Here is an link: http://www.accessmedicalusa.com/churchill.html

I will save over $1,100 a year by supplying these products myself instead of having my home healthcare company deliver these products to me.

I hope this doesn't violate the Terms & Conditions of the board but I was excited to share a way of saving significant $$$.

If he is selling the supplies you list without a valid prescription he is in violation of federal law.

End of discussion.

Thank you for bringing this up. The law says that he cannot ship the product to me so he shipped it directly to my doctor's office.
However I paid for it. Then it is up to my doctor's office to "dispense" the item to me which involves handing over the package.

So, it is legal.

Same thing here, I did my own flushes and also have Medicare which of course, does not cover the supply costs so I too go through an online company for my central line kits and hubers. Central line kits do need a RX as do the needles do, the company contacts my MD and then ships them to my home once they get the faxed Rx. I have save money doing it this way, central line kits cost about $6, hubers (depending on the brand) can cost between $4 to $10 each...kawasumi (sp?) being the cheapest brand that I have come across. It's worth doing the research, a reputable company will require a MD's rx for things like needles and flushes. Like Tom said, it is illegal to dispense without one.

I am sorry that this thread is so far off topic regarding the Rx.

To date I have only ordered the dressing change kit and didn't need the Rx as long as it was shipped to my doctor's office. After placing my order I spoke with Terry at Accessmedicalusa about my situation and then he mentioned other supplies that he carries including Huber needles. I ASSUMED that you didn't need an Rx for that as well and stand corrected.

The point of this thread is to provide a reputable and inexpensive supplier so that I (and other CF patients) could save a lot on their supplies.
