Hyper Sal 7% question...

I just started using the hyper sal 7% after a 6 month break. I'm not constricted after doing it, so now I'm back on it. But I have a question.

The first time I used the solution, it was amazing! I started off being fairly clear, but after only a few puffs, I was coughing up gunk that was probably down there deep for years When I thought I was really clear, I suddenly found out what really clear was suppose to feel like. The first 2 treatments were great. A few DEEP coughs with each treatment-- very productive.

But now, I barely cough when doing the sal 7%. Granted, I feel clear, but is it not working the same? Is this a good sign? If I am clear, do I still need to do it? I'm confused! Thanks.

I would take that as a good sign, our pedi pulm went as far as to say HS has been the best drug closest on the market for CF. Look at the data to back it up, it is a powerful productive product.

If there's nothing to cough up, then HTS won't produce mucus for you.

You still need to do it, yes, no matter how you feel.

Here's the visual: your airways are filled with tiny beating hairs called cilia. The cilia work to move debris out of your airways that isn't supposed to be there.

In CF, however, these hairs are paralyzed because the thick sticky mucus sits on top of them. Poor cilia can't work! HTS draws water out of the cells into the airways, and creates a water-like barrier between the cilia and the mucus. So the cilia can beat again and help you cough up the mucus!!!!

So, it's super important to keep taking your HTS so that those cilia can keep beating and removing your mucus (help keep you clear). If you stop, that water barrier will go away, the cilia will stop beating, and the mucus will just sit there.

Hoep that helps

Sorry to hear the 7 % doesn't work as well for you now...

I started using 3% recently.. I didn't give up the 7, I just alternate. Some days I do a few 7 and then towards the end I do some 3.. Sometimes alternate them every other day. Just depends. I didn't think I'd cough up anything with the 3%, but I did! I cough up different stuff with it... I can't explain it. I feel like it's thinner so it gets down in my smaller airways better. I cough up gunky stuff with the 7, and more watery stuff with the 3. Sometimes if I feel like the 7 isn't doing anything, I do a little of the 3% and I feel like it gets down there deeper and I can cough up more.

Maybe you could try it! Just a thought!
