Hypertonic Saline Question

I was wondering if you guys had heard the same thing, that it is not only the sterile part of not using the 10% for more than one dose (because I was) but also because it has no preservatives. This is what the pharmacy told me so I quit using it for 2 doses instead of only the one. I am wondering if they just say that because of losing money?? I hate the thought of throwing all that away.

I would like to know your thoughts.

I was told by a pharmacist that according to the strict since of advise, of course they cannot recommend reusing an open container, but "off the record" we were told to cap it with foil or put it in a baggy and refrigerate... but to use it within 24 hours ....this is what my daughter has done for about 2 years now... so in theory, she opens new vials in the morning, uses them for that treatment and the evening treatment and again for the following morning treatment...then she can open new ones for the evening, use them again for the next morning and next evening again.

I think the key is the refrigeration, coverage and use within 24 hours that minimizes the risk of any significant contamination.

My daughter said she also squirts a little bit out each time too to kind of flush it out -- don't know if that is really lowering any risk or not, but it makes her feel better :)

Ditto on what Alyssa said. I used to just put mine in the fridge in a cup and use it for my morning and evening dose and if i was feeling really ambitious i would use it in the middle of the day as well, but yeah, use it withing 24 hours. You could ask the pharmacy if they have any big medicine bottle/containers they could give you or use an old one you have that way it would have a lid you could put back on.
