I have a poopy question...

For the last couple of weeks, every time my 2 yr. old poops (once or twice a day) it's been like little balls. They're not super hard or anything, but usually this is just an occasional thing. His stools are normally quite...well, normal. He hasn't been eating anything out of the ordinary. Lately every BM is these little balls. Is this something to be concerned about? Should I call the doctor just to ask?

I think he actually likes it better this way, because whenever his stools are a little hard or big he tends to try to hold it in, usually making it worse, and it turns into a big ordeal of crying, refusing to sit down, and refusing to poop until he just can't hold it anymore. These balls must be much easier to pass. They go from the size of smaller than a pea to as large as maybe a nickel. I call it rabbit poop, but it's not hard like that. Sorry if TMI!

We call it bunny poop at our house. Doesn't happen all the time, but if DS isn't a big eater or drinker --- he gets Carnation instant breakfast made with whole milkl & cream with meals -- sometimes he opts to drink all my skim milk instead, so he doesn't get the usual amount of fat. There's less volume and the bunny poop sinks to the bottom of the toilet.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless his tummy is really distended, sore and his eating decreases.

Thanks Liza. He's eating normally, tummy is fine, no crankiness or anything like that. It's just usually a once in a while thing, and lately it's every BM. I wonder how many other families call it bunny/rabbit poop like we do.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter's doctor, when she was young, told me that her enzymes were too high when she had bowel movements like you explained.

We call the rabbit turds too! Ben has them once or twice a week. I suspect it has more to do with water intake then anything elso with him. On the days I know he has drank a good amount of water, he has normal formed poo. It is hard since most of the time we have to push things to them rather than them actually asking us for what they may need (since they can't stop playing for one second!!)

This has been happening since he was 2 and it has never gone further (like constipation or bowel issues).
