So I got home from work Monday night and started to feel the flu coming on. I thought nothing of it and just did the usual regiman of drinking a ton of water and tea and thought I could just sweat it out like you usually can. Tuesday I got a fever as high as 104.3 and I took Ibroprofen and tried to sweat it out. I know stupid. Well I toughed through Tues night and Wed morning is when I knew something was wrong. I called doc and they wrote me a prescription for tamiflu. I was just going to ride it out and my girlfriend basically said I had no choice and she brought me in. I was admitted right away and they tested with the nose swabs and put a rush on the test. Came back negative so I thought great don't have it. Woke up Thursday morning and the Doc said he wasn't covinced because of how high my fever was so he did the blood test also and guess what, possitive. Now I am in the UW Madison hospital with the first known CF case. Kind of scary because I feel like I have an endless supply of brown green sticky as hell mucus coming up. They are taking good care of me though and said I am lucky I came in when I did. I guess my point for all of this is that I was the first one to laugh when people hyped up the H1N1 flu. It is as I am experiencing a little more powerful than the regular flu. The funny thing is i was not around anyone sick and I am a clean person. You should see what one of the nurses wears when he comes in, looks like a slimmed down chemical suit, no joke! Oh by the way I am 30 year old male with 40-45% fev and about 75% fev1. If you have any questions just let me know. I got time I will be in Hosp for a good 2 weeks ;-)

Sorry to hear you're in but glad you're getting treated. Are they just gonna treat with antibiotics while you're there? I was under the impression that they didn't want H1N1 cases at the hospitals unless you need fluids or need to be vented or something and that they're telling peeps to take their tamiflu and stay home since there isn't anything they can give you but that anyway. Is this incorrect?

I hope your CF doesn't suffer cause of this, but like you said, you caught it early and that is usually a really really good thing when dealing with any virus. Get on top of it before it gets you. I hope they're doing lots of extra treatments, etc. on you to make you well soon.

Hugs and well wishes coming your way.....

you're not alone. last week i started to get flu symptoms... thought i would tough it out. then one night (after a couple nights of little sleep) i woke up coughing up blood with a fever so i went to the ER. they swabbed me and said i had influenza A, but they didn't know/wouldnt say if it was h1n1. anyways i stayed in there for 6 days on iv antibiotics and tamiflu. left on monday and now i'm on oral cipro. i found that during the day i would cough up very little, but at night i would cough up lots of mucous as well.

DH, no cf, had the same issue. Went to the clinic and passed the rapid test. They said it was "just a virus" and told him no tamiflu. We happened to have some from a previous influenza scare, so he took it right away and felt much better. Went back to his parents and slept for 20 hours.

He was away on business and a colleague was sick the first day and still attended the training sessions. That guy is STILL coughing, he developed a secondary lung infection and was sick for about 2 weeks. DH was better after about 5 days. Fever gone, but still had a headache for a day or so.

DS' doctor has said it's better to be cautious and just take the tamiflu at the first sign of feeling ill -- fever, muscle aches... That it's best to take as soon as possible

Hope you feel better soon.
