Hi everyone. I am an adult (26 y/o) cf patient that is looking for ideas on gaining weight. I am currently doing the ensure plus supplement thing...but I want to hear what others are doing. Weight gain has always been a struggle for me, and I have a poor appetite. Probably from so many years of seeing food as medicine- I just can't enjoy it. I am currently 120lbs, 5'7" and I am looking to put on at least 20 more lbs.
I want to hear your ideas/comments. Thanks!

I have always found that there isn't an unhealthy food for a CFer. As you know, we need to be "fat" in order to have some reserves if we get sick. I assume that you are faithful with your enzymes because that is the most important. You can also eat right before you go to bed so you don't work off those calories right away. I personally eat anything and everything whether or not it's "unhealthy". Right now I'm about 5'9" 190 pounds. Hope this helps.

Hi Christina. The thing that helped my son gain the most was weight training. He was able to build muscle, and that made a huge difference in his overall health. It also increased his appetite after about a month of lifting.

In the beginning, he did drink protein and weight gainer shakes with ice cream in them, but after a while, when his appetite increased, he didn't drink them anymore.

do you have ANY acid reflux problems? If you do....you might try a PPI like Nexium. Getting acid reflux under control helps maximize the efforts of your enzymes. I gained about 20 pounds over about a years time when I started on Nexium. Just my 2 cents.
