If you already have psuedo do you have to worry about catching it?

Hi

My son was just dx two weeks ago so I'm really new to all of this.
He cultured psuedo and staph. Since he already has it
do we have to be very concerned about him catching them again?
Current medicines/treatments can kill those bugs if caught early before they get firmly established (which is probably the case given your son's age). So I'd advise remaining vigilant against further infection with the same bugs. He won't develop an immunity to them like he would for chickenpox.

There are different strains of pseudomonas. I started culturing a new strain of PA last year & I have had PA for years.

Ah

I see.

This is so contrary to how I was parenting before. I was of
the thinking that we need to build his immune system and I
was not a really careful about germs (I washed my hands a millions
times a day though). That leads me to so many more questions
about exposing my son to different situations.

Off to start a new thread about that.

Thank you for your responses, I have so many questions right
now.
I should have tempered my earlier response a bit: I think it's important to be vigilant and practice good sanitizing/handwashing etc. to avoid the avoidable sources of pseudomonas and uglybugs....BUT, a kids gotta have a life and bugs are everywhere. I certainly don't make my son live encased in plastic wrap and he's played in mud and leaves and everything else that's fun for a tot...it's just that afterwards I clean his hands and face and try to discourage him from eating the dirt and leaves, etc.

HI Gr33nie! It's me from MDC!!
I agree with the pp, hand washing is very important, but I certainly never lived in a bubble - and I do think some germ resistance is good, though things like staph, PA and MRSA are not things you will build a resistance too. There are a lot of conflicting views here about how "protected" to keep kids - I was not kept from doing anything I wanted to do as a child and I didn't get PA until I was 28, and I have never been hospitalized. I played in dirt and went to public swimming pools and daycare and public school and all the controversial things that get discussed here - so you just never know. But I do think CF kids need to have as normal of a life as they can!!
