I know a lot of women with cf have problems, but does anbody know anything about incontinence in males? Over the last year or so it has gotten a lot worse for me. I hardly ever make it to the bathroom any more. I have to wear diapers now(AAARGGHHH!!). My lungs are getting worse, and I haven't seen a doctor in about six years. My insurance will cover me in july, and i will definatly see someone then. If anyone knows anything let me know please, thanks.

I would call a cf clinic in your area (if there is one available) perhaps you can qualify for disability due to your progressive lung disease. Then you would qualify for medicare and that will cover you in the hospital and as a out patient. Do not wait to go to your doctor. I have not heard of this in males but if you are coughing more and have weak muscles anything is possible

This is just a thought based on what a friend of mine dealt with from her son who does not CF. He was wetting his pants in school & she was at her wits end because he was 7 & long past potty training. IN addition it was happening way to often to just be an accident. It was found that his was from constipation. It was pushing on his bladder making him not able to control it nor be able to empty it completely also. I thought of this right away for you because of the digestive issues thtat are connected with CF. Mind you this child did have bowl movements, but not sufficient ones to relieve the pressure put on the bladder. Just a thought since the child was a male also!

I never thought of that. I thank you for giving me idea's about what might be going on. I do get cramps often, and that would make sense. Did this child have any problems after having his constipation treated?

As long as the constipation stays away he is fine, but that is difficult for his mom to do. He is suppose to be on a high fiber diet, limit dairy or other binding foods etc. He is a bit overweight for his size & age, but I dont think that has anything to do with it except that he has always eaten what he wants. Now that is whats making it hard on his mom to keep the right diet in him.....Kids!

I've been told by many doctors that women suffer from stress incontinence. This type of incontinence is defined as an involuntary discharge of urine when there is no anatomic displacement. Its caused by a sudden increase in abdominal pressure that is a result from coughing. I suppose men could get it to I suppose. I do know that if its a urinary problem, you can tighten the muscles in that area by doing Kegels - to feel this group of muscles, stop urinating in midstream. The exercise is performed by contracting that muscle area for three seconds, relaxing for three seconds, then contracting it again.
