Infant PT

I just recently had to start PT on our 3 month old. I thought it would be easy since he enjoys the beating on his back. He does not however, enjoy the therapy on his chest and sides. My question is does anyone here use percussors for the therapy. Before we went everyone told us they would give us "cups" to aid in his therapy, but they have not mentioned it. I planon asking tomorrow at his visit, but was curious if people use them anymore. Thanks!

We used both our hands and the percussor when my daughter was an infant. I'm sure if you ask they will give you one. My daughter also only liked it on her back and was very squirmy for the front and sides. I tried a few things:

1. We got a big exercise ball (like the birthing balls from birthing classes?) and I would lay her on there for treatments. The bounciness of it was more soothing and absorbed some of the pats more.

2. I asked if we could only get in the back, and not the front and sides, how bad would that be? I was told by the RT that when they are that little, you can pretty effectively get in most of the PT in the back if they are not congested. The mere shaking and movement should still be helpful and its better to get a full treatment on just the back than none at all.

I used anesthesia face masks for cpt on my children. They are a few dollars each. The respiratory therapists used them in the hospital when my kids were first diagnosed, so I just bought some on-line. They have some for sale on e-bay. I always ordered them from a medical company. I had to explain why I needed them and they were happy to send some out to me. Also, the Cedarmont kids videos were my children's favorite videos to watch during cpt. Very entertaining! (Toddler Tunes is a good one!)
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 8 and Jack, 6 both with cf, Grant, 8 months no cf

The chest has always been a bit difficult, but I dont mind the sides & LOVE the back LOL!

Jada used the "cups" on me when visiting her. They were different, but I prefer the hand. I am from the old school!

I used a percusser years ago. I had an awful experience because back then they were extremely heavy & bulky & looked like a giant drill <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">
