Injured my Port or area around it???

I think I did something to my port, Yesterday I was reaching for a blanket at work and I felt my port pop. We did an x ray at work, I work in a Cath Lab where x rays are available.. The port is in place, but I am swollen around the area, and it is black and blue. It is as sore as it was the day I got it several years ago.

The pain goes up my neck, and pretty much follows the path of the port and tube.

one of the doctors I work with thought maybe I pulled the port away from scar tissue. Has anyone every did this before? I didn't hit it or anything, I just heard a pop when I reached for a blanket..

Any ideas???

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry that happened, i'm sure it's scary.

When I first had my port placed if I my moved my arm/shoulder in a certain way above my head I could feel it pop. It was literally catching on my clavicle. Yuck. Anyway about a month later they went back in and "revised" it, moving it down. I'm assuming that can't be what's happening with yours or it would have happened before now since you have had it for years.

Did your port move around much before this incident? I've read on here before that some peoples move, but mine has never moved at all. I'm just wondering if you pulled it away from the scar tissue like the doc thought was a possibility. Mine is stitched to my chest wall and I'm assuming if I tore the stitches and it popped out of place it would feel like what you're describing. That would probably be my best guess of what happened.

Sorry, I don't feel like I've been of much help but wanted to mention my experience just in case! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Take care, and let us know.
