hi everyone! i've just been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis recently, and about a week ago I came across this site. I've read some posts and stuff and it seems like a really great forum where the people are positive and supporitve...so i look forward to being a part of it!
here's my story...
december 19th, 2008, I was taken to the emergency room because I was so out of breath and I had a constant cough.
i had dropped about 15 pounds in the past two months as well. that's when i started showing symptoms, two months prior to that. i had been to the doctor 5 times and she kept diagnosing asthma, but it kept getting worse..and she did nothing else...psh. i was so miserable for those months, i couldnt even walk to class and i thought i was dying. and now i'm glad i know what's wrong and that i went to the hospital!
so when i got to the hospital they did some tests and initally thought it was tuberculosis..or even lymphoma. so they sent me in an ambulance to the big hospital in the major city here. i stayed for 22 days on intravenous antibiotics and came out feeling brand new. i gained back 12 pounds when i was there, and now i'm at home and weigh 120 and am 5'6. while i was there i learned all about cf..but i'm sure you guys have a more personal, and not statistical, view of it. my friends are all very supportive, as is my school. i'm 15 years old, and i have a brother with cf also. they tested him while i was in the hospital, and it was positive. he had no symptoms but is now doing treatments. he's 12. so...how are you guys doing with cf?
oh yeah and they did gene testing to find the mutations, they identified one and i'm not sure what it is..but they sent the other one off somehwere because they couldn't identify it here.
wow, i completely forgot to add that i am a girl, incase the name didn't help<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
